Hitting Stats Spreadsheet (Version 9.0 - NEW RELEASE!)
If you like to keep stats and have Microsoft Excel, click on the title above to download a Hitting Statistics Spreadsheet (version 9).  After each game, you will have to manually enter the stats from your score book for each of your players.  The spreadsheet will automatically sum all of the game stats together and compute each player's hitting and base running stats, such as batting average, slugging average, on-base percentage, stolen base percentage, and a number of other statistics for the season.  It will also sum the data for the entire team and compute team averages.

Just in time for the spring 2012 season, I’ve released Version 9.0 of the Hitting Statistics Spreadsheet, which incorporates a number of improvements:

  1. I’ve added a WELCOME page to help new users get started and to provide a nicer-looking front to the spreadsheet
  2. On the INSTRUCTIONS page, I’ve totally revised and reformatted the instructions.  Hopefully, the instructions are now easier to understand.  I also added the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to the INSTRUCTIONS page.
  3. On the SEASON STATS page:
    • The spreadsheet now computes and displays the total runs scored by your team and by your opponents, and the average score per game. You will need to enter your game scores on the GAME STATS page for this feature to work
    • I’ve expanded the sorting features by adding buttons that allow you to sort by batting average, slugging average, on-base percentage, OPS, run production average, and stolen bases.  Just click on the button and the spreadsheet sorts your data for you
  4. On the GAME STATS page:
    • I split the cell where you enter a game's score into two cells, one for your score and one for your opponent's.  This allows the spreadsheet to sum up the runs scored over the season by your team and by your opponents, and to compute the average runs scored per game
  5. I added some color coding to all pages of the spreadsheet:
    • A yellow cell indicates an instruction
    • Blue cells are where you enter data, and are unprotected
    • All other cells are protected so you won't inadvertantly overwrite an instruction, label, or formula.  There are instructions to remove the protection on the INSTRUCTION page but you shouldn't need to remove it unless you intend to modify the spreadsheet.  You no longer need to enter a password to remove the protection

Five Key Positions of the Swing
This is a Powerpoint file of the 5 key positions that a hitter should pass through during the swing.   It's helpful when working with a student to work him through these five positions.

One-Page Hitting Checklist (version 5)
It's a one page summary of the swing.
